I am currently playing 2nd violin with the New Texas Symphony Orchestra, where I was accepted last May. They are an interesting bunch of very talented musicians, and the director (Cathy Brown) consistently provides very challenging music for the group. It has given me some motivation to practice a bit more than I have been prior to playing with NTSO. The photo to the right was taken by a co-worker at LuminatorUSA.
The 2013-2014 schedule has been posted. The first concert of the current season is November 2nd.
After that, well, continuing with NTSO is contingent on staying in the DFW area. My contract with LuminatorUSA is scheduled to end in mid-November. I would definitely prefer to get another contract in this area after that, but I would consider a change of scenery, especially if it was nearer the Texas coast, or maybe in Florida. That would make it more convenient to pursue my other favorite hobby, cruising.
A big downside to relocating is that I would have to completely give up my current violin teaching business. That, and the opportunity to perform with the NTSO, is why I would prefer to stay in Plano.
