Google’s True Nature?

GoogleHandcuffsOver on How-To Geek, I found an article about some unwanted installation of software by Google (via a so-called “Side Load” from a Picasa installation). I found this quote interesting:

Applications that persist despite our best efforts to banish them certainly are annoying and even more so when they’re from a company we’d expect to be better about respecting our wishes.

Yeah, right. If you are expecting Google to be “better about respecting our wishes,” don’t hold your breath. If you have followed me for any length of time, you will know that I have no particular love (or trust) for Google. They are just another really big company. They don’t care about you, only about your money — and they don’t even consider you to be a customer, much less respect your wishes.

Google considers you to be their property, which which they are entitled to do anything they damned well please.

If you don’t believe that, try contacting Google Customer Service. If you succeed, please contact me to let me know how you did it.

I am in the process of arranging my life so that I don’t have to depend on Google for anything important. That includes Gmail.
