Replacing Gmail

My replacement for Gmail

Google has been at it again…

Over the past few days, I’ve been noticing that some (not all) of my Gmail filters have suddenly stopped working. The thing that makes that really interesting is that I haven’t added or changed any filters in a long time. And when I go in to examine the failed filter, and simply apply it, it mysteriously works.

Getting completely away from Google services is difficult, but I work on that a little every day. One thing I have not yet figured out is how to get Thunderbird to be as easily portable as Gmail, but I’ll bet there is a way to get Thunderbird in the “cloud,” Specifically, my own personal cloud, perhaps in a disk that I can mount on something like S3, or perhaps on a service from d9 hosting.

Meanwhile, I’m downloading all of my Gmail messages to Thunderbird to make sure that Google can’t just “lose” them for me.
